DESCRIPTION
The MMWI certification is designed to provide high level instruction for development of an objective, evidence-based deliverable. The medical writer learns the AMA style guide of writing methodology, general accepted standards for medical writing, and how to assemble and construct a peer-reviewed manuscript which is worthy of peer-reviewed publication. In order to enroll in the Core Curriculum program, you must have a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and 2 professional references. If experience is extensive, MMWI may opt to waive academic requirements; however, experience must be demonstrated and documented via a portfolio assessment (separate charge).
PREREQUISITES
Minimum AA degree with demonstrated 2 years experience in health sciences with applicable certification
OBJECTIVES
Upon successful completion of the core curriculum certification, the medical writing professional will be familiar with appropriate methodology and style of medical writing, have knowledge of levels of evidence and trial design, and understand the ethics related to medical writing in the pharmaceutical and research field. The medical writer will be able to conduct a detailed literature review, construct data summaries of the evidence, and assemble a peer-reviewed manuscript worthy of publication (subject to peer review). Additional core competencies include development of abstracts and posters, web content, and development of continuing medical education programs.

TIME REQUIREMENTS
After enrollment, participant has 1 calendar year to complete the core curriculum certification; participant can expedite the certification process across 6 months - however, 6 months is the minimum time period required prior to certification completion.

DESCRIPTION
The MMWI medical writing practicum provides "real-world" peer-reviewed publication experience to the certified medical writer.
PREREQUISITES
 Current MD degree with Core Curriculum Certification from AMWA or
 
 MMWI certification (minimum Bachelor's degree required) or
 
 Life science degree with Advanced Core Curriculum Certification through AMWA
OBJECTIVES
Upon successful completion of the MMWI Practicum, the medical writer will have developed a peer-reviewed article and acted as a peer-reviewer for a peer-reviewed article. BELS-certified editors will have provided light, medium, and substantive editorial services as part of their practicum. Additional internships are available regarding graphic design and biostatistics. Bylines and writing samples are provided as part of successful course completion.

E-learning program; teleconferencing schedule predetermined based on participant availability
TIME REQUIREMENTS
After enrollment, participant will take part in a quarterly publication schedule for a peer-reviewed journal.
